Frequently Asked Questions

What is Vanagon Dictionary?

The shared lexical service for Vanagon and Gerry: 95 preserved historical Volkswagen bus and mailing-list terms, 22 separate contemporary parts references, and clearly labeled translation drafts. Each site keeps its own feeds and protocols.

Where did the definitions come from?

Historical English wording and categories come from the preserved Vanagon.com dictionary, which had no per-term tags. Contemporary parts references cite workshop or camper manuals and have separate modern editorial tags and model scope.

Are the translations reviewed?

The Spanish, French, German, Irish, Scottish Gaelic, and Japanese definitions are machine-assisted drafts. They have not received human review.

Can I use the API?

Yes. Public reads include search, term pages, statistics, API docs, OpenAPI, RSS, sitemap, and MCP discovery.

How does Gerry archive search relate to the dictionary?

Search and term pages request up to three contextual matches from Gerry’s existing public search API and link to the full archive search. Messages remain owned by Gerry and do not become dictionary definitions or feed items. If Gerry is unavailable, the normal search link remains available.

How can I contribute?

The browser form currently saves a private local draft and does not publish it. Protected API submissions require the operator key and are subject to moderation. Historical entries remain source-linked.
