Privacy

Vanagon Dictionary keeps public dictionary content separate from operational and contributor information.

  • Historical entries, approved new definitions, source links, and submitted author handles are public.
  • Search queries and term labels are sent to Gerry’s public search API to display community context. This read path does not forward cookies, operator credentials, or private browser drafts.
  • Operational identifiers are redacted or hashed before public display. Authentication headers, cookies, and raw IP addresses are not included in public discovery or exports.
  • Trending uses anonymous displayed term views and up to ten term matches from the first search results page. A random tab identifier is stored in session storage and hashed daily on the server for deduplication; receipts expire after 48 hours. Aggregate hourly term counts are retained. Raw queries, IP addresses, and raw tab identifiers are not stored in these activity tables. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control disable this telemetry.
  • Votes, moderation, removal requests, and other contributor actions use the minimum data needed to run those features.
